Structural B-mode imaging remains the base of every exam. Color Doppler shows flow direction and speed in the field; PW/CW Doppler provide spectra for measurements. For cardio and vascular protocols, clinics without Doppler hit a ceiling quickly — anatomy without hemodynamics. That does not mean “everyone needs Doppler”; your cardio share decides whether it belongs in the base package.
Cardiac work more often needs a stationary Vetus or TE5 Vet with matching probes and cardiac presets. Abdominal Doppler may fit another class — again a question of appointment mix, not “the newest cart”. If cardio is a handful of cases per month, discuss with the distributor whether base Color is enough or full spectral contour is required. That is a way to think about budget and training — not a universal rule.
Color helps you see flow in the field quickly and judge perfusion. Serious cardio diagnostics usually also need spectral Doppler — otherwise speeds and gradients per protocol are harder to measure.
